In this episode of Live On Purpose Radio, Dr. Paul invites Lori Richan to join him in talking about a diagnosis that they both share, Spasmodic Dysphonia (SD). SD is a neurological voice disorder that causes spasms in the vocal folds. Through some self disclosure, today’s show illustrates again that your package in life just doesn’t matter all that much when you decide to Live On Purpose! Your life is not a problem to be solved, but a gift to be opened.

Really appreciated this podcast, very helpful. I’m a LCSW with SD and was in private practice for 15 years when a combination of difficult circumstances (husband’s health crisis, low point newish SD, personal conflicts) led me to take an extended leave of absence from my practice, a kind of hibernation from the world or perhaps I simply crawled into my victim corner, as you put it. Which actually made things worse, as you can imagine, although this “worst” place led me to seek out a variety of experiences and practices that have been good. I’m doing much better now, am back in practice (one of my clients is another therapist with a vocal disorder, though not SD). Wish I had found you earlier but I’m glad to have discovered you now. Thanks for the great work you’re doing.
Great Great show!! I have had SD for 14yrs…and have become for better terms fed up with trying to live my life lately. I have gotten botox for yrs and it is up and down. Your show helped me Soo much with my attitude! I must have a real change affirmation! Instead of always fighting to be heard! Your voice to me sounds so good, do you get injections or vocal therapy or exercises? Thank you, I will start listening to your shows and am excited to hear them!!
